Before PageGroup, where were you before and what were your specialisations?

Before I joined PageGroup two years ago, I had more than three years of recruitment experience specialising in the medical and life sciences sector. Prior to recruitment, I worked as an Accountant.

Why did you join PageGroup and what is your current role?

I wanted to be a part of a firm that shares the same personal values that I have, such as being able to work as a team, being passionate and never giving up and most of all having the opportunity to be an industry specialist in recruitment for sales & marketing professionals within the FMCG sector in Singapore.

How has your past experience helped you in your current role?

I believe my past experience in finance and accounting has taught me to focus on processes and be very detailed driven. Our role as a recruiter requires us to negotiate salary packages on our candidates’ behalf and each role can be quite process-oriented. One of the most important things for me is that I had three years of recruitment experience prior to joining PageGroup and that helped me to transition into my current role a lot easier.

Successes / achievements that you have accomplished during your time at PageGroup

I have had the opportunity to successfully place three senior sales and marketing professionals for one of the world’s largest beverage groups. That was a great achievement for me because those roles were a result of a year’s worth of relationship building with the client.  Filling these roles created further opportunities for PageGroup with the same company in Hong Kong and Malaysia.

How have you grown with PageGroup?

Every day is different. This is the only job so far in my career that pushes me out of my comfort zone and beyond what I think I can do. Also, working alongside supportive co-workers helps me to achieve my goals.

What are the most rewarding parts of your job?

The most rewarding part of this job is being a part of a journey with candidates, who will someday become a client of mine. As well as making a difference in someone’s life from a career perspective and being an expert within the FMCG sector.

What advice would you give to graduates who are looking to join the recruitment industry?

If you are someone who enjoys being with people in general, building relationships, making a difference in someone’s life, this role could be for you. The challenge is not getting into the industry; the challenge is staying and surviving within the recruitment industry. Never give up too easily on your dreams, your vision, be resilient and know that you are never working alone fighting those battles, your team is fighting it with you.
